Dragon Ball Z

On March 20, 2019, Disney announced the acquisition of the 21st Century Fox Company. This was the largest and possibly most difficult merger of two media companies in history. Disney has purchased the assets of Fox’s film and TV divisions, with likes of X-Men, Deadpool, and Fantastic Four now coming under Disney Banner, but there’s more.

Disney acquired the right’s of Dragon Ball Z, and this deal has been done under the cloak of secrecy. After Star Wars, Dragon Ball is one of the longest-running and most-loved series, with a built-in fanbase of over thirty years, and Disney’s knew that. Disney is known for grabbing opportunities to turn them into multi-billion dollar businesses, as proven by Marvel.

If you don’t know, “the Dragon Ball-Z” is the property of 20th Century Fox, and in the past, it has produced the live-action movie called Dragonball Evolution (2009). Still, the movie was so horrible that writer Toriyama felt that the fanbase deserved an apology. Therefore, he decided to revive the series with Dragon Ball Z’s animated film: Battle of Gods (2013).

who own right's of Dragon Ball Z

However, there is a catch; Disney has acquired the rights of Dragon Ball Z but not the whole franchise. In reality, Disney has only bought the rights to make a live-action Dragon Ball movie, as well as film distribution rights.

While the animated series is still owned by Akira Toriyama, TOEI Animation and Shueisha, all of which is based in Japan. The English dub is still under the control of Funimation Entertainment, a Sony Pictures Entertainment subsidiary. Here’s Shueisha is the ultimate rights-holder.

Disney working on Dragon Ball Z Cinematic Universe

Disney is not the one who has genie lamp in their hands and never uses it. Disney is well aware of Dragon Ball Z Universe’s potential and popularity.

According to rumours, Instagram artist ultraraw26 claims to have heard Disney is working on a new live-action Dragon Ball franchise in the hopes of matching the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s tremendous popularity.

I heard this rumour a few days ago that Disney is planning to start a new Dragon Ball live-action franchise with the hope of replicating the massive success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now, this is only a rumour, I don’t know if it’s TRUE or what.

I only hope to see super Saiyan 4 make an entrance one day on the live-action screen.

However, Disney still needs Akira Toriyama’s and Shueisha’s approval, but it’s only a question of time. After all, who doesn’t want to work with Disney? I’m sure Disney’s writers and Akira Toriyama’s collaboration on Dragon Ball Z Live action will bring wonders to the franchise.

Disney might be able to do what Fox hasn’t been able to do. Disney never fails to amaze us. Would you like Disney giving a major Overhaul of Dragon Ball-Z in a live-action take? Comment below
