The WhatsApp Disappearing Messages feature is now official.

WhatsApp has brought a new feature known as “Disappearing messages” for its users. The new feature auto-delete your messages after a week, i.e., exactly seven days from the time of the message sent.

The ‘Disappearing Messages feature’ is now official on all platforms, including iOS, Android, WhatsApp Web, and Desktop client.

1 To enable this feature, you have to download the update from Playstore/App store manually

2. The feature needs to be manually turned On for each chat window

3.  In groups, admins will have control. The group admins will be able to enable disappearing messages in group chats.

4. When the Disappearing Messages feature is on, there is no option of customizing the time frame after which the messages get deleted.

5. If a user doesn’t open WhatsApp in the seven days, the message will disappear from the WhatsApp server. However, It might still display the preview of the Deleted message in the notifications panel until WhatsApp is opened.

6. Disappearing messages will also wipe out photos and videos after seven days, and the messages will disappear for both parties 

7. If a user somehow creates a backup before the message disappears, then the disappearing message will be included in the backup safe and sound.

“We’re starting with seven days because we think it offers peace of mind that conversations aren’t permanent while remaining practical so you don’t forget what you were chatting about. The shopping list or store address you received a few days ago will be there while you need it, and then disappear after you don’t,” says WhatsApp in its official blog.

How to switch on the Disappearing Messages feature:

1 Open the WhatsApp chat on your smartphone

2. Open the Required Chat, and then tap the contact’s name or group name on the top bar.

3. Scroll down and tap Disappearing messages

4. If prompted, tap on the CONTINUE.

5. Select On

Now you are good to go; new messages sent to a chat will disappear after seven days from the time of the message sent.

How to switch off the Disappearing Messages feature:

1 Open the WhatsApp chat on your smartphone

2. Open the Required Chat, and then tap the contact’s name or group name on the top bar.

3. Scroll down and tap Disappearing messages

4. If prompted, tap on the CONTINUE.

5. Select Off

Now messages sent in the chat will no longer disappear.
