Nokia brings back “Matrix Phone” into Life with 4G LTE

Remember the phone from “Matrix”? Neo used a Nokia 8110 in the movie to make that call, which gave the phone a cult status. Now Nokia is bringing back the Iconic 8810 into life once again. HMD has revealed an updated version of its curved 8110 mobile phone at Mobile World Congress.

HMD chief executive Florian Seiche said the company wanted to “create a unique identity for the brand” and the range of new devices was to “expand and refresh” the Nokia portfolio.

The revamped 8110 is, like the original, curved to fit the shape of the face and a snap cover that is used to unlock the phone or answer calls.

It was called as the “banana phone” when it was launched in 1996 but became famous after it was used in the Matrix starring Keanu Reeves.

It’s no longer based on S30, instead KaiOS was used (which was forked off Firefox OS). You get Google Search, Maps and even the Assistant! And you get to sync your contacts and calendar with your Google account, so much more convenient than the old days.

It features an 2.4” curved display (QVGA resolution) and is powered by a Snapdragon 205 chipset, there 4G LTE connectivity – both for VoLTE calls and for a Wi-Fi hotspot. The 1,500mAh battery will last over 9 hours of VoLTE calls. No Selfie Although you get 2MP rear camera. The Nokia 8110 4G will cost €80 (Rs 6,000) when it becomes available in May.
